Scientific Ufologist Kathleen Marden is a UFO and alien abduction writer and lecturer.
She is currently focusing upon the many highly significant historical evidence cases,
and due to time constraints, is no longer investigating UFO abductions.
She is the niece of Betty and Barney Hill, the New Hampshire couple whose 1961
UFO experience stirred worldwide interest. A primary witness to the evidence of the
UFO encounter and the aftermath, Kathy has intimate knowledge of the Hills'
biographical histories, personalities, and never before published historical
data pertaining to their sensational story. She personally conducted a skeptical
investigation of the case and was surprised to find substantial evidence that it might
be real. She is also the Trustee of their extensive archival collection.
Although many people associate her exclusively with the the Betty and Barney Hill
abduction, Kathy's interest in the many facets of UFO close encounters and alien
abduction extends far beyond her aunt’s and uncle’s experience. She has studied
many highly credible abduction evidence cases and the psychological explanations
for internally generated abduction experiences. Kathy strongly believes that a
complete investigation of the event should be undertaken before hypnosis is
employed, if at all, and is strongly opposed to investigation exclusively through
hypnosis.
It has become increasingly clear to Kathy that some “alien abduction phenomena”
reside outside, and cannot be entirely investigated or understood within Western
Scientific paradigms. For example, an abductee’s initial experience might have
acceptable evidence, but subsequent nocturnal bedroom abductions leave little or no
acceptable evidence. Without substantial evidence and witness confirmation,
whether or not it is real, we are left with an interesting story that lacks scientific
credibility.
Whereas it would be easy to summarily dismiss these perplexing phenomena as
being entirely psychologically generated, Kathy rejects this approach as unscientific
and biased.
She earned her B.A. in Social Work at the University of New Hampshire in 1971.
Thereafter, she entered into graduate studies in Education at the University of
Cincinnati, and later, U.N.H. She began her professional career as a social worker
and eventually entered the field of education as a teacher. Later, she was promoted
to a supervisory position, coordinating education programs and supervising
education staff.
She left her job in 1990 to pursue a career as a UFO investigator, researcher and
writer. She taught adult education classes on UFO and abduction history, and for 10
years volunteered as the Mutual UFO Network's Director of Field Investigator Training.
In 2003, MUFON publicly recognized Kathy for her most outstanding
contribution of advancing the scientific study of the UFO phenomenon by dedicating
the annual MUFON International UFO Proceedings to her.
Kathy is currently a full time writer and lecturer. Her 2007 book Captured! The Betty
and Barney Hill UFO Experience, with coauthor Stanton T. Friedman, is a case study
of her aunt and uncle, Betty and Barney Hills' 1961 UFO close encounter and
abduction. Autographed copies of her new and exciting book Science Was
Wrong (with Stan Friedman) are now available at her website and in the "Science"
section at bookstores. Individually, she has written numerous magazine articles and
professional papers.
